The Kit: ROMA HOME 2000-01
Still swimming in summer tour highlights and transfer rumors, the European big leagues are still about a month away from kicking off. Continuing to pass the time lurking eBay for any football related gems brought me to Kappa and specifically the Roma kit where they won their third Scudetto.
Sponsor: INA Assitalia
Worn By: Francesco Totti, Gabriel Batistuta, Marco Delvecchio, Vincenzo Montella, Cafu, and Hidetoshi Nakata
Serie A was very competitive during this era. Roma would be the 4 different title winner in 5 years and only a year after their bitter rivals Lazio. The signing of Argentine legend Gabriel Batistuta from Fiorentina was the final piece of the puzzle for Fabio Capello’s squad. They would clinch the title with a 3-1 victory in the final day match against a star studded Parma.
Aesthetically this kit was way ahead of its time. The Kappa form fitting cut would become a signature look as it would always stand out when compared to the more common baggy wide cut kits. When looking through all the images from this era once can see that these are very much in line with what we see brands producing today.
