As the last day of January camp wrapped up for the USWNT, a few adidas athletes on the roster stayed an extra night in Carson, California for a heartwarming surprise. Thirty local, female teenage soccer players from West Coast FC were lead to think they were partaking in a standard scrimmage on a chilly Monday night. Little did they know their game was about be interrupted in the best way possible.
The unexpected festivities kicked off with a fun training session from one of women’s soccer’s biggest champions and social media brands, @soccergrlprobz. The selfie filled work-out/meet and greet served as a perfect decoy for the “big surprise.” A massive semi truck blaring music by the Weekend put a very loud halt to the proceedings. The shocked young faces quickly turned into smiles along with plenty of screaming when USWNT players Becky Sauerbrunn, Morgan Brian and Emily Sonnett hopped off the truck. As if that wasn’t enough, the National Team members opened the trailer to reveal adidas soccer gear for all of the girls, including the three stripes first ever boots designed for women.
Freshly draped in the latest soccer swagger from adidas and with the new X or Ace on their feet, the girls would restart their session, only this time with a few USWNT players in the mix. Naturally the night finished off with more selfies and if you can believe it, more gifts. adidas further blessed each of the young ladies with backpacks holding casual gear and even a pair of Alphabounce runners for their off the pitch needs. Massive shouts to Dick’s Sporting Goods and adidas for the fun experience. We hope it’s one that brands emulate in the future.
